Sharing walls.

Ohhh the joys of apartment living. You never know what you're gonna get.

I'm referring to neighbors here. And I suppose even if you buy a home you never know who you're gonna get, but at least you won't be sharing walls with those people. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of apartments because we obviously move too much to settle down, and I am not ready to commit to anything for more than a year anyways. But it's just too close for comfort sometimes.

This is the fourth apartment we've lived in together. The first apartment a newborn baby lived next door (we called him David, we have no idea what his name actually was) and this didn't really bother me because their bedroom wall was our living room wall so David didn't keep us up at night, and anyways I love babies. Then the second place we lived in, the young man next door whistled all. day. long. And again, this didn't really bother me because it was kind of cheerful of him, and our living room wall was his living room wall so it was no big deal. Then the third place we lived in, well I called that couple the "alcoholics with loud dogs" and we were so lucky to share our bedroom wall with their bedroom. The dog barking didn't so much bother me because they're just dogs, but when they got drunk and threw things at each other, that bothered me. And when one night I woke up to loud crashing noises that sounded like an entire wrestling team next door, I snuck outside and called 911. I never know what happened to them, but three cop cars showed up and they moved out a few weeks later.

But our neighbors right now are on a whole other level. At first it was funny. The tenth time it was still funny. But sitting here earlier at my kitchen table reading, loud moaning noises starting coming through the walls and I have just had more than enough. I don't know how to say this...but they have some rowdy sexual activities going on over there. And I am not kidding it goes on, and on, and on, and on, AND ON. I have no idea what's going on, but I do not want to be hearing it. It is past the point of funny now. It's starting to make me sick. Today I turned up some music soo loud in hopes they might get the hint that I can hear them and I'm purposefully blocking them out. But I don't think they seem like the type who would even care. I wonder if I should write them a letter.

" To whom it may concern at #_ _ _ _ :

Could you please keep your private time down? I can't hear Keeping Up With The Kardashians over your ear-piercing screams, and you're ruining my appetite while I try to make dinner, and I even think I could hear you while I was in the shower the other day. Also you kept my in-laws up all weekend when they visited. I understand you must like each other a lot, but please for the love of God- Stop.

Sincerely,
Anonymous. "

Although, if I were to write an anonymous letter they would probably figure out it was me since we're the only ones who share their bedroom wall. But I also wouldn't be surprised if the people above us can hear. Or maybe even down the hall. Or heck, even across the street....

I just texted John that I cannot deal anymore and he said we might think it's funny years from now. Or I say, maybe they will just move ;)

x.

  1. This made me laugh. I live in an apartment too and recently had neighbours just like yours, thankfully our neighbours moved out, hopefully yours do too! Like you, I thought it was kinda funny the first time, it was during a blackout afterall but when it happens again and again you get over it. We didn't even share a wall with them. Oh apartment living!!! My other favourite apartments memories are the man upstairs who I could hear snoring in my bedroom every night and the other neighbours who actually played the same song on repeat ALL day!
