Anniversary weekend in Las Vegas!

Alternately titled, "all the things I ate." Also the only picture I got of us that isn't a forced selfie. Oh well..(ALSO, the ring on that guy is brand new, and I won't lie, I kind of love it.)

I think I mentioned it already, but I really did not take a lot of pictures. I just wasn't in the mood for some reason. (Also because John doesn't play pretend so I'm learning to stop forcing those things on him lol.) But it was nice. Of course I got most of the obligatory food pics, but other than that I wasn't being real snap-happy. But happy I was! I kept saying to John that this trip couldn't have come at a better time. We needed it so badly. For the last few months it seems like, Johns been working day and night and we don't get much one-on-one time together where we aren't working on something. You know how weekends can turn into to-do lists and chores, and just talking and planning and complaining about life in general? Well, we get stuck in that rut and it was so nice to take a break from it all for a few days. As long as life lets us, we are planning on taking this time of the year for ourselves every anniversary in the future. I think we both agree that it's a must. (John jokingly mentioned Paris next year and I was like PLEASE OH MY GOD YES!!! But who knows lol.)

We stayed basically four whole days, but decided maybe for Vegas at least, that three days would have been enough, haha. We are not used to drinking and eating so much. We ate a lot. At first being on a vacation and eating out multiple times a day is fun, but by the time we got home I so excited to just cereal for real. But it was awesome. I would like to go to Vegas once a year just to eat for a few days. Besides eating, we drank a lot more than usual too. Not ridiculous, like we didn't get "drunk" drunk, and we definitely did not go out clubbing or anything crazy like that, but we kept a pretty healthy buzz, and I'm honestly still recovering from that. One day of drinking = 5 days of rest for me anymore, haha.

We stayed a The Palazzo this time, which is connected to The Venetian where we stayed last year, because it just seemed nicer and quieter and we really liked all the shopping and restaurants there. We aren't really interested in being around the party crowd (or weirdo's and let's just admit it, there's a lot there), so it was perfect. Our room was almost exactly the same as the room we stayed in at the Venetian and when I woke up that first morning I seriously felt like I was in a time warp back to last year. It literally felt like we were just there yesterday. John loved the room style so much, he keeps saying he's going to build our house someday with that exact master bedroom set up. (Someday..)

No pool party outside our window this time, but this golf course at the Wynn sparked a few golf conversations. (Like, should we ever play golf?) Also those mountains kill me. I want to live in the mountains someday!!

Anyways, let me back up a little. Our flight on Friday was at 5 IN THE MORNING, which always seems like a good idea, until you're actually waking up at 2 in the morning to leave. For some reason my phone only had 4 songs on it when we got up in the air (something to do with the stupid cloud again) so I listened to those 4 songs over and over again and drifted in and out of sleep and before I knew it, we were there. As we were landing and realizing what time it was (..like 6am) John was like, "I don't even remember booking this flight, I don't know what I was thinking" haha. Our cab driver was even like, "what brings you here so early??" When we checked into the hotel, our room of course wasn't ready yet and everything was closed except for two places to get breakfast, so we went to one and just took our time. I was totally about to order coffee until John spoke before me and went "two grand mimosas" and I was like, ooookay I guess we're starting this now haha. So, breakfast and two very strong mimosas later, we were feeling good. Prior to this I was still in my "must east healthy" mindset, so it was good to just throw it out the window and forget about it right away. I'll admit though, I did not think I was going to go completely nuts with the food, but I'm so glad I did. I don't think I will be eating and drinking like that again for a long, time. (Until next year haha.)

Then we wandered around for a few hours until our room was ready, and funny story - we realized we didn't have any small bills to tip the guy who was bringing up the luggage, but I did scrounge up one dollar bill, so when he came knocking on the door John ran and hid in the bathroom and made me do it, haha. So I gave him the dollar and pretended like I was so tired, like that would be a good excuse to tip poorly, haha. I felt so bad. Like literally I thought about that a few times over the weekend how I wanted to find him and repay him. Oh well, I'm sure it's not the worst thing I'll ever do. (Or have ever done, haha.) Once we got settled in, we closed the curtains and took like a three hour long nap. Because of the time change we were a little jet lagged and I kept saying how it felt like we landed in another country, haha. (Plus champagne always makes me so tired.) I knew we would sleep a lot on this trip, but we literally slept in AND took a nap everyday. It was glorious. I mean, I take a nap at least once a week normally, but this was amazing because the room had blackout curtains so I napped like a little baby. Although it does make it hard to wake up, haha.

Friday was really the best day probably because it seemed forever long, because we got those extra hours. So once we woke up, it was still only like noon, so we just went out with no plan. Part of the reason we came back for our anniversary was to be here with no plan. Just do whatever we felt like, whenever we felt like it.

We shared a lobster roll and chips for lunch, got some amazing pastries for later (but I ate some right away), I bought a new hat, John tried on watches (random and hilarious to me for some reason lol), and then this happened...

We've officially both conformed now and wear wedding bands. John originally never wanted one, but something must have come over him, and when he said the words "I'll take it" my mouth probably dropped to the floor, I was so surprised. I know I talk a lot about how rings aren't necessary (or I am going to talk a lot about that..whenever I finish my dang post) but something about seeing that on him made my heart just melt into pieces. It was definitely the highlight of my trip. I kept telling him that now our rings had powers like that old show I used to watch when I was a kid "captain planet" haha. And I kind of love that it happened in Las Vegas because it just adds another little story to our history there. But, I'll save the rest of that story for another time..

Then we shopped and ate some more, which is basically the gist of our weekend...so I'll skip over to some more exciting/memorable times...

Here's John sniffing some soaps.

And here's some pink cauliflower that came with my burger Friday night. (Best burger ever, we actually ate here twice.) I didn't try it, but John did and he said, "don't try it" haha. But cute idea.

Before we called it a night, John was like, "let's go get some champagne, I think I saw some for like thirty bucks." And I was like..."well I don't know if I can drink a whole bottle, but I'll have some." So we stopped at one of the little convenience shops on the way back to our room, and it rung up as 70$ haha. So I was like, "okay fine I'll drink it all."

At least it was good. I'll give it that. (Although we normally spend like $10-20 on champagne haha.) The TV kept advertising Trainwreck on demand, so I was going to make John watch it, but then it wasn't available to rent and I was like, "what the?! false advertisement!" So because I got some bath bombs earlier (which John loves too haha) we ended up in the huge awesome bathtub drinking champagne and watching Shark Tank (because tv in the bathroom of course). I love watching that show because we always get into the best discussions and we almost always bet opposite like, me- "oh they will totally buy into this" and John - "no, they'll hate it." And we always end up talking about the weirdest, most random topics. (Like we were talking forever about what we thought Mcdonalds business strategy was by serving breakfast all day, haha.) Anyone else? (..And hopefully that's not TMI for anyone, it's a bath for gods sake.)

Then before bed, after I had already brushed my teeth, I realized we still had pastries from earlier...so we shared the gooiest brownie covered with thick chocolate frosting...and then I had to brush my teeth again haha, but worth it.

Saturday was more or less the same, eating and shopping. We knew we were going out later that night, so we had a pretty chill day.

Chill like pizza and wine by 11am, haha. (The earliest they opened.) At first I was like, "no let's not go to Grimaldi's, we go there like every weekend." But it just sounded so good! And I wanted to cry/laugh so hard when the waitress brought us back to the exact same table we sat at last year.

(Instagram snap from last year, because I was like, "I'm not going to be weird and ask her to take our picture this time" haha.)

But as much eating as we did, we did do a lot of walking too, so I didn't feel so bad about the extra treats I was having. I overheard a woman telling her friend one day, "this is the most exercise I've ever had" and I was like, yeah girl good point!! John always tracks how much he walks a day, and we were averaging like 5 miles a day, so not bad at all right? As much as beachy vacations are cool, we decided our idea of a good vacation is somewhere we can walk and explore a ton. And eat. A ton.

So hard to get a good selfie with someone who's a foot taller than you are. Also, I didn't realize it until now but I keep trying to close mouth smile haha. Why? I don't know.

I was trying to tell John that pictures crossing the road are all the rage in blogging. He's like, "stop, you're going to get us killed" haha. Just kidding he didn't say anything, but this look just tells me.

Saturday we spent a lot of time trying to find TV's to catch the scores of football games because John was betting on some teams (gambling makes about as much sense to me as sports does), so while John was doing things like that, I was trying to catch strangers in wedding dresses. It was a fun game to play.

I'm such a creep. I know. I also took some photos of some questionable bathing suit attire (like really, who is comfortable walking around a casino in a thong), but I won't get THAT creepy here.

And when I got bored of that, I found a gelato shop. I walked up to the table John was playing cards at and was like, "hello everyone. I got ice cream." (Middle name awkward.) And this guy was like, "what you don't gamble?" and I was like, "well I did one whole dollar yesterday, and I lost it." Haha. I will never budge, money is much better spent shopping. Always & forever.

We had tickets Saturday night to see KA at MGM, so we got ready early and decided to make a night of it over there.

I already talked about this on Insta, but I got these leather (or let's be real, not leather at all lol) pants from Forever21 the week before, and once I put them on I was like...no. Not me at all. It was partly due to the fact that earlier in the day I had bought a new pair of really dark skinny Sevens and after that, these just felt like..well, cheap fake leather, haha. So I took one picture in them, because I will never be this cool again, and then just wore jeans.

Which looked exactly the same basically, but I just felt like they held me in better. If you know what I  mean haha, I am not 21.

Right when we got to MGM, I was glad we didn't stay somewhere like that...Party.Central. This was immediately when we walked in the door..

Kid passed out. In his bathing suit. On a scooter. (Or a "rascal" as John kept calling them, but I was like "I have never heard that word before" lol.) I was actually worried about him, but no one else even seemed to notice, so I don't think it was unusual.

And then here is some guys just hanging out in their bathrobes. Maybe they were on their way to the spa, or to their room, but I have a feeling they were just trying to be ridiculous. I find that kind of behavior just annoying (because I'm old) so I was like, what the hell? And there were a lot of smokers here. I didn't realize that our hotel was so non-smokey, until we got here. It started to give me a headache and almost got me cranky, but I had to remember, I'm only 27, I'm not dead, I can still have fun with this type of crowd. (Heck I would have been them only a few years ago lol.) So I got over it. John gambled a little. I did a little too. (I put in 10$ and once it got up to $14 I pulled out haha.) And of course, we ate really good food. This place we wanted to go to, had an hour and a half wait and we were about to leave, but then we caught some people leaving the bar and John swooped in and got us seats.

It was southern food, so I got the shrimp and grits because my Daddy makes the beessst. But this was good too ;)

Then for dessert I snuck into a candy shop to get some treats for the show. Gummy bear/Reeses pieces combo. John came in and I was like, "it's only $1 a pound!" and he was like, "no that says an ounce." Haha, so glad I stopped at 8 ounces..(Not complaining about money at all, it's just funny how much everything is jacked up in Vegas. Or anywhere touristy for that matter. But always worth it.)

We knew we wanted to see a show because we weren't able to last time, and because I'm actually really obsessed with theater. It was hard to pick one, but we decided on KA because the story line looked cool, like lots of action, and the stage literally moved the entire time. And we had really awesome seats rights, like 9th row in the middle. I loved every second of it. When we first walked in, all the crew was dressed like really creepy and weird and they were all talking in British accents like, "no photography please!" and I was like, "wait, are they all really British or are they pretending?" Haha. I still have no idea. But obviously I secretly took some pictures, along with everyone else, because no one ever listens to those rules.

I have a few other dark pictures, but here's part of the set. They were like swinging around everywhere. Here's the trailer, if anyone's interested. I don't know if you can tell from that, but there were a lot of butts, haha. Butts in tights. One guy was flying around forever in just a sparkly nylon bodysuit and I kept glancing over at John to see how he felt about it, haha. But these people were ripped! Even the main character who's supposed to be a young girl, I noticed right away how amazing her back muscles were. And even all the butts were like rocks. (I'm so weird, I know.) I felt very out of shape after watching them. It was awesome though. (The show, but necessarily the butts, haha.)

By the time we got back to our hotel is was almost midnight. We got ready for bed, and stayed up waiting for midnight because then it was our anniversary. (Or at least I was waiting up, haha.) I seriously felt like it was Christmas, I was so excited for it. Right when it struck 12, I was like, "Happy Anniversary John. It wasn't so bad right?" (Haha. I mean being married.) Then I crawled into bed and played "our song" on my phone, which sounds so cheesy but I had to. John did it last year on the day we got married so it has to be a tradition now. And no, we won't tell anyone what it is, but it's not really a "secret" song. I'm sure it's in the top 20 love/couple/wedding songs. We just danced to it at a wedding once a long time ago, and we were like about to cry we felt so in love (again, probably just me) hahaha. But we both love it now.

And...on that note, I am going to pause right now and break the rest up into another post. I didn't realize it would be this long. But I will never be one for short trips down memory lane ;)

So until next time. x

  1. What a perfect vacation! That sounds like my ideal Vegas trip because I do not gamble more than like $10. Haha. All of that food looks amazing! I love your creepy pictures...pure amazingness. Lol. Can't wait to see the rest of your trip!

    1. I know it makes me sick to throw money away because I love to shop too much lol. I understand it's a "gamble" and there's potential to win a lot more, but I'd just rather keep what I have haha. John loves it though!

  2. I love reading all your wedding recaps. And that you stalked brides in Vegas haha. I'm like OBSESSED with anyone getting married now that our wedding is over. Someone I barely know is getting married tomorrow and I'm so jealous. haha. Like I just want to do it again. I wouldn't change anything, but just live the day over again! Also I totally agree on gambling! I've actually never done it before. Michael says we need to go to Vegas and do it, it's fun, blah blah but I'd probably start crying if I lost like, $1 soooo....haha.

    1. Hhaha I know, that's how I felt. I wanted to run up to them all and be like "hey I got married here too!!!" But I just watched from afar. They all looked so nervous, it was funny lol.

  3. Yay vacation! It sounds like you had so much fun! I get so tired of eating out if we go on vacation because I just want normal food after awhile! I love the ring! I'm curious to read your opinion on the ring thing. I hate the competition of flashy rings. I have a single diamond on my ring and it is so simple, but so me. I love it more for what it means and who gave it to me. It has way more sentimental value than that it is worth. Heck, Danny's ring is like $20 but I like seeing him wear it too. We saw a Cirque du Soleil show once in San Diego and it was amazingggg I can only imagine how much better they are in Vegas because ours was in a tent. Anddd I am glad I am not the only one that feels old, but isn't old lol

    1. Ew I know, the ring competition makes me sick. It was never anything I realized until I got married, but it's like all women are secretly judging each other over it and we should just stop. I have a lot of opinions, but mostly just who cares lol. I am so simple too. I always say that I feel like a Christmas tree when I have too much jewelry on haha. But yes the show was awesome. I want to see a hundred more. I would see a hundred more in a tent even! Those people are amazing.

  4. I'm super curious to read your ring post and see your perspective!! Doesn't it make husbands sexier with their ring? Like yeah, that means he's my husband snitches. haha i dunno, I just think the ring makes Jason sexier but I'm a weirdo. I was in Vegas on my 21st birthday with friends and I gambled $1 at the Excalibur casino and list .30 cents haha I still have the voucher as a memory! This might sound weird but since I've been to Vegas for so many birthdays, whenever I smell cigarette smoke I kind of like it in the way it reminds me of all my Vegas adventures. I HATE smoking and the smell but it still reminds me of good times so I have a love/hate relationship with it. Did you guys go to the Coke factory!?!

    1. Oh my god, that's funny about the smoke smell, I can totally understand that I relate a lot of smells to things. But cigarette smoke in particular makes me feel hungover instantly whenever I smell it. I spent a little too much of my youth drinking and then smoking, so it just doesn't sit well with me anymore haha. I don't know if I have a very interesting perspective on it, mostly that we decided to wait on rings, and people were rude about it lol. So I have the perspective of WHO CARES and MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. haha. But more of that eventually. And no...we didn't go there lol. Well, we did wander inside for a minute, but left. I looked it up and it looked really cool, but at that point of the day, whatever day it was, I was so tired. And I already had like 500000 calories of sugar so I was like, no cokes please. Couldn't do it. John kind of wanted to though lol.

  5. Sounds like a perfect weekend! We are all about the walking and eating vacations as opposed to laying on the beach all day every day. I've never been to Vegas, I feel like such a loser haha. I don't gamble and staying up past 11pm is a feat for me, so I've never been to keen to go. Your trip looks like something k can handle though!

    1. Girl, trust me I am so not a Vegas person, and if it hadn't of been a place to go get married quick and easy, I probably would have never gone! But it's so fun! (Only for a few days though lol) It's so entertaining and the food everywhere is just amazing. And people watching, if you're into that sort of thing is great too. But, you are not a loser, when I read your blog, I feel like a loser!!!! Your life's so cool! ;)

  6. Sounds like it was an amazing weekend!!! I mean, if the weekend revolves around food, you know it's a good one ;) And I hear you on the gambling. I just can't get into it either - it feels like throwing away money! Which I would much rather spend on more food + drinks lol! Can't wait to hear about the rest of the trip!

  7. It looks like you had the best time in Vegas!! I love that your entire weekend pretty much revolved around food and taking pictures of all the crazy things you saw in Vegas. I feel like you are my vacation soul mate.

  8. I kind of love that you love John's new wedding band... Especially since it was so unexpected! Also, girllllll, leather pants (or the like) get me every time - I'll try them on in the store and be all like dang, I'm so hip and fashionable and amazing... Then as soon as I go to wear them out, I'm like ummm, just can't do it! Ha! Must be that Forever 21 music that makes me feel young while shopping... ;)

    1. Lol I know! I was just in there again last weekend (returning the leather pants lol) and I caught myself eyeing all this cool-hip stuff thinking I was like Kylie Jenner and I had to be like, no Morgan no. I mean really, the name says it all. 21.....I can even remember shopping there in high school and thinking how 21 seemed old haha. That should tell me to stop.

  9. What a great weekend! It definitely looks like you ate well, and your husband's wedding ring looks great! My husband actually really likes wearing his, and I never thought he would! Also, that kid on a scooter is cracking me up and needs to be made into a meme ;)

  10. Oh man, what a fun trip! All of the food you had looks amazing... minus the pink cauliflower. Ew. Yay for your hubby splurging on a wedding ring, and some champagne! Spending the evening in the tub with some champs watching Shark Tank sounds like an amazing way to end a day! And the weirdos in the bathrobe...wtf?! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

  11. The bar staff at this place was professional and their drinks ensured us a fun night in the city. I can't wait to go back. Most of the negative elements of going to a more popular place are avoided at these event venues; the staff was really mature and respectful.
