I wanted to recap our long weekend in Michigan, but I'm not really sure what to say (nothing funny or really that interesting happened so I'm out of clever titles, obviously) and I didn't take too many pictures. And I just have a bunch of other things going on right now, so I don't want to spend my usual hours writing up a post so here goes the 5 minute version...
So, we drove allll day Wednesday - I think it took us 11 hours total from start to finish, and once we got into Howell (have I ever even mentioned that's where we're from? Oh, never heard of it? Don't worry, no one has lol) it was late so we ordered Jets pizza, like we always do when we get home, and just hung out with Johns parents. They had THE prettiest sunset over the lake. Really, lake life. There's nothing like it. So, I'm sure it was obvious, but the real reason we went home was to see Johns Dad. He has Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in his ankle and just started chemo recently. And yes he will be fine, but cancer and chemo and staying home basically 24/7 because he can't walk/go to germy places sucks, so we really wanted to visit him and bring Ted to cheer him up.
We tried not to make too many plans while we were there, to leave a lot of time to just mostly hang out. But that's always hard when we're only home for a weekend or two a year. I had been holding out on getting my hair done forever because I knew we would be going home, so I snuck in an appointment with someone I actually KNOW instead of a finding a random person again, and John ended up getting his haircut too.....(because he celebrated his promotion a bit too hard last weekend and missed his appt here lol).
This was Thursday, St. Patricks Day, so later on we went over to my Dad & Step-Moms for corned beef sandwiches and green Sprite (apparently a thing lol) and to see my SUPER CUTE PREGNANT STEP-SISTER!!
^ That's my future niece right there, Kennedy. (I'm OBSESSED with her name. Like I wish I had thought of it first, I love it so much.) Does anyone think we look like real sisters? I always do, haha. But then people always think she looks like my other sister, so maybe I am just being wishful haha.
It's always really hard to see friends when we're in town because we try to mostly focus on family, but Friday morning I went out to a quick breakfast with two ladies I worked with when I was an assistant preschool teacher. It was probably hands down the best friends I've ever made from a job (which I am NOT good at lol), and I can't tell you how much these two influenced me. They're the best. (And the one I'm sitting next to always does my nanny references!) We went to good old Leo's, which will mean nothing to you unless you're from Michigan, but it's the best.
Actually, there's so much good food from Michigan, we basically ate all weekend...like we always do when we're home. Johns Dad really wanted to go to Frankenmuth (which is basically a little German town, big tourist destination) and I hadn't been there since high school, so we did that later on Friday for a late lunch/early dinner. (Why is there not a name for that??)
I really wasn't planning on drinking but she went, "oh, our bloody marys are REALLY GOOD" so I was like, alright. (Also the waitress totally had an accent to me. I was going to comment on it, then I realized, duh...we're in Michigan.) But yeah, I don't understand how anyone could eat this and a meal afterwards, haha. (Notice I said "eat" lol.) This place is famous for their chicken dinners, so I just got two pieces of chicken (fried, omg) and mashed potatoes and dressing. So simple sounding, but it was really, really good. It's probably more of the atmosphere of this place that makes it special. After we ate, John and his Dad went into the bar to watch the MSU basketball game and his Mom and I went walking down the street in and out of all the shops. I could smell the fudge almost right away (Michigan fudge >......everything) so I knew I needed to get some. I wanted to just get one plain chocolate, but it was buy three, get one free....so we got four.
Later that night (after I went home and napped lol) Johns best friend and his girlfriend came over to say hi, and I tried to force everyone to eat all this fudge and instead I just sat there and kept slicing off little bites for myself, haha. Also John totally brought his favorite Texas beer home to make everyone drink.
It was Friday night that Johns brother came over to stay the rest of the weekend too, and with him came Ted's new BFF/boyfriend according to John, haha - Brody the bulldog. So, as I've talked about a million times before, Ted is just so obsessed with other dogs. And he would not leave Brody alone from the moment he got there. He basically licked his face raw, and the poor bulldog would just lay down and let Ted do it, so we had to start separating them every so often so Ted would chill the f*ck out.
Like, this looks really bad, but we had to trap him in the TV room to give the other dog a break. Brody the bulldog liked Ted, and he's not too much older, but he just was not as intense as Teddy is. First thing Saturday morning Ted ran out of our room and started all over again with Brody. It was kind of annoying....and we also learned that Ted has NO clue what it's like to live in a house. We kept putting him out on the deck and we would open the sliding glass door and he would just stand there so confused because he's never seen a door that didn't just open and close. And then we went into this giant fake plant and took out a giant fake wood chip and wanted to munch on it, haha. There's a few other examples I can think of, but this is only the 5 minute recap...not the 25 minute. So I'll move on...
Saturday morning I took Ted over to my sisters house so that he could meet her lab, Hugo. (Ok, so there is more about Ted....sorry.) And I was actually really nervous he would be super wild, but I think he behaved pretty well. Her lab is way bigger than Ted so luckily Ted couldn't take him over so easily. And I got to see my sisters nursery and she fed me those giant Costco blueberry muffins, which are the most amazing thing in the world that I never buy. (I think it's pretty obvious that I'm overly obsessed with food...)
Saturday was more family time at Johns parents, and not to continue to talk about food....but we went out to his Dad's favorite place so he could get his favorite ribs. I can't believe it, but I didn't even get a single picture of Johns Dad and that's the whole reason we were there!! I did however get him on my snapchat while we were waiting for our table, but this doesn't really represent him very well.....
Hahahaha. OH, and thank you everyone for finally teaching me how to use these filters!! I always wanted to face swap with John, and I could probably do it once a day forever and still be entertained. I had no idea what I would look like with a beard...
So anyways, that's about it! It's always too short, but we hope to be back maybe later on this summer. (Depending on if we're moving or not....which is starting to look like a no, lol, so we will see...)
Until next time, xx.
