Adventures in adulting, this week.

Not sure why I'm writing this post, but I just want to throw together a little life update. And highlights this week include (sort of) house hunting and a baby appointment so it feeels like adulting over here. Or getting ready to at least, lol.

OK, SO HOW CUTE IS THIS HOUSE?! I know you can't really see it, but just trust me, it is. Whenever we've had a free Saturday, we've started just driving around checking out areas around Dallas since it's SO HUGE and we don't really looove the area that we're in now, but I think last weekend we finally found where we want to look! (Next year! Not now! I wish!) This area was SO CUTE. SO CUTE it probably made this house cuter than it really is, haha. (FYI: this one is for sale, that's why we were driving by it/taking pictures of it.) We're really pretty simple, we want three bedrooms, ONE FLOOR (I know we're weird), a yard for Ted, TREE's (and not those little puny ones, REAL trees), sidewalks and in more of an established neighborhood. I love new houses as much as the next person, but there's something just so charming about a neighborhood with a little history. AND THERE WAS A GIANT PARK RIGHT DOWN THE STREET!!! Anyone from Howell/Brighton, totally similar to the Imagination Station, except newer. We're seriously obsessed and HOPING AND PRAYING that next year we will be able to find something around there. Since I worked in mortgages, I know that no one is buying/selling right now but come next Feb/March, the market will be popping' (yeah, poppin') so FINGERS CROSSED! The only thing I wonder is....who is going to cut that grass, haha? (Can I hire a neighbor kid, lol...?)

And in my very own adult related news, I may finally be getting a real camera. It only makes sense that someone who blogs, "markets" their own fitness biz, likes to share recipes etc AND HAS A BEAUTIFUL CHILD ON THE WAY have a really nice camera right? Who can tell me what to get? There are two we're looking at getting on Black Friday. Canon or Nikon? HALP.

And in baby news, we had our (I like to say "our" like I'm two people now hahaha) 15 week appointment and John has insisted that he is coming to EVERY appointment now, so he tagged along and it was pretty cute that he was there. Nothing really exciting happened. (And thankfully nothing weird, lol. I'm glad he wasn't at the last one..) But he got to hear the heartbeat and ask his favorite question, "can she hear me?" LOL. The doctor said yes, and that she can always tell Dads who talk to babies. So we're doing nightly chats with her now.

And a little something for "us" on Thanksgiving, hahaha. I probably should have gotten another bottle because this stuff is SO GOOD. But also reason to NOT get another bottle, haha. Speaking of Thanksgiving though, this will be the third time I've cooked a turkey, and the last two have been fine, okay. But how do I make a REALLY good turkey? John isn't a fan of Thanksgiving food at all, he just lets me do it for my own fun, but I want to make him love Thanksgiving too. I've been watching Food Network all week. It would seem I have to put things like butter under the skin...anyone do this? I need secrets.

Okay, now this post is turning out to be just a lot of questions, but I'd rather ask someone than research, lol. I'm hoping to get Christmas cards ordered within the next two weeks and I used Shutterfly last year, but is there anything...cheaper? I cannot spend like $2 per a card. (That sounds cheap, but x by 50.) I think I got the cheapest option last year, lol. But I DID get my Christmas stamps already...by accident. I went to the post office to mail some Shakeo samples and I actually was buying stamps and made the mistake of asking the nice woman if they had holiday stamps yet. And she pulled out these and was so excited about them and the blue color and the light in the middle, that I was like, "yeah those are nice. I'll take them." Not that they aren't nice. They are. I'm just not super religious. I usually get the weird cartoon ones, lol. But maybe this makes me seem more....mature. Parent like? (Kidding, lol.)

So that's about it! Super adulty! Oh wait, I did just remember one more adult thing. John upgraded our Costco membership...........in anticipation of buying diapers soon hahaha. SO ADULT.

Until next time. x

  1. Yeah, I think I'd feel awkward if I asked about holiday stamps and they freaked and were like AREN'T THESE AMAZING?! Like how do you say, "Umm, if that's all you have, no thanks." Hahaha.

Omg Martinelli's is so dang good. We bought a bottle just randomly last year and it was gone so fast. I wish it had zero calories and sugar and I could drink it every day forever.

  2. I hope the housing market isn't as crazy for you guys as it was for us this past summer. Seriously, people making offers on houses WAY over the asking price, making offers before even seeing a house in person.. NO. I love living in an older house/older neighborhood! It just feels like it has so much more character than the newer neighborhoods here. All the houses out in West Omaha look exactly the same. I have been wanting a nice camera too so I am in the same predicament as you, haha. I haven't even looked at any Black Friday deals yet but it's kind of tempting to get one that day. I'd be kind of weirded out by those stamps too but yes.. at least they are pretty colors! :)

    1. Oh gosh....that's scary. Making an offer before even seeing a house?? WTF! Your house is SO adorable by the way. I remember we had some friends out in West Omaha, which is supposed to be "so nice" and all, but it was just all cookie cutter! I hate that! I'd feel like I was living in the Truman show or something, lol.

  3. Ah I love your blog! Just remember not to buy a house built before 78 because of lead paint with a baby. Look it up. And you will never want a house before 78 anyway, haha. Also, I want a one story house too! One of the reasons I begged Jon to get the other condo in Charleston is because it is one story! Two stories SUCKS with a baby! I miss our old condo so much. I seriously spend so much time going up and down stairs with a baby and I HATE IT. So, I would really love our future house to be a one story house, but it's not super common in Georgia, so I doubt that'll happen. I always had Canons and got a Nikon one year (a powershoot, so not a DSLR) and I regretted it big time. I have a Canon Ti83 (haha I just typed that and realized that's the graphing calculator- I don't actually know what I have? A T3?) and Jon got the starter kit for me. It was like, $6-700 and had a tripod, case, long zoom lens, extra battery, and I LOVE IT. Jon only went to the ultrasound appointments with me and our very first one. They were all super boring and a waste of time though, so I don't blame him for not going. I actually told him not to come because I didn't even want to be there. I just recorded the heartbeat on my phone for him and sent it to him. I like those stamps and I'm not religious either (as in, Jon and I are both atheists, so we're about as unreligious as it gets), hah. I am SO EXCITED about Christmas this year with a baby! I keep telling my mom all of our plans with Jackson and she's like, "I don't think he's going to understand cookies" and "I think he's just going to try to eat all the ornaments if we put it up while he's awake." Crushing my dreams! But we're going to do it all with him anyway and then we're going to put him in Christmas PJs and he's going to watch A Charlie Brown Christmas (his first TV show EVER- because we don't let him watch TV) with us! CAN'T WAIT, haha!

    1. Most of the baby appointments are SO boring. I mean, I'm glad they check that she's still alive in there, but I always leave like "well, there goes another....$300 for two seconds" lol! (I'm shocked by some of these bills already.) But he's into it and it's cute so he can come. And OMG, Christmas with a baby is going to be the best!!! Ours will still be little, like 6 /12 months next Christmas but I'm so excited! Totally going to do cookie and jammies and movies and everything!

  4. Lol, your adulting comments crack me up. Get a Canon, you'll love it!! I purchased my Canon on Black Friday at Best Buy a few years back, and it's been the best investment I ever made. Let me know if you have any questions!

    1. Yeah, HOW DO YOU USE IT?!!? Just kidding. I need to get on Youtube or something because I am so not into reading instructions. I figure it can't be THAT hard right? I'm, not looking to do anything crazy... just keep it on manual basically lol.

  5. Buying a house is so fun! And by fun I mean stressful and nerve wracking and panic attack inducing, but also so fun. So remember that part. I have a Nikon and I love it. Everyone raves about Canons, but I didn't find them to be super user-friendly at all and I love the lens selection available to Nikons (probably the same for Canons), but I took my class on a Nikon and there's no looking back for me. The photos seems more crisp and IDK, I just like them better. I tried my friends's Canon t3i and it was...okay? Professionals all across the board use both so really - you can't go wrong with either. I also recommend buying a tripod and remote, because...they're just really fun! I got my bundle at Costco, because it ended up being the cheapest way to get more lenses and a memory card, so check there too!

    1. Panic attacks coming FOR SURE. I know I'll be one of those people who get myself too attached to certain houses and I'll cry when we don't get them, lol. And yeah, no clue how to use this camera. I started reading the manual and basically fell asleep lol. I think I'll have to get on youtube and just watch some tutorials or something. And NEED a tripod. NEED to make my family take a million pictures with me now haha. PS whatever you're using/doing is amazing. You're pics are THE BEST.
